2012 High School Art Exhibition Guidelines

KCC is pleased to host its 23rd annual High School Art Exhibition. This year's exhibition, in the Learning Resource Center's art gallery, runs from Mar. 1 through Mar. 28, 2012. A closing reception will be held on March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m, with a jurors' critique and scholarship presentation at 7 p.m. Jurors are KCC art faculty.

General Information

Please read carefully before filling out entry forms.

Eligibility

This exhibition is open to high school students (grades 9-12) who are enrolled in art classes. Students may submit one (1) work that was completed for class credit in any art class. It must have been completed within the last year (Spring 2011, Fall 2011 and Spring 2012). Please note: A diptych is considered one work.

Fee

There is no entry fee for this exhibition.

Specifications

Flatwork – must be framed under Plexiglas (glass not allowed) or securely wrapped in acetate or shrink-wrap over a sturdy backing like corrugated cardboard or foam core. The art must be securely wired.  Please do not attach wire or string with tape. If necessary, hook paper clips into backing and attach wire to clips.

Three-dimensional entries – are encouraged, with display cases available for small works and floor pedestals for larger pieces.

Tagging

Printed and electronic tags are required for each entry. Entry forms must be filled out clearly and completely. All works submitted must be tagged with a fully completed entry form. Please attach the printed form to the backside, upper right corner of all flatwork and to the bottom of three-dimensional works. This year, we are asking that students cut off the small bottom tag and attach it to the front on the lower right-hand side. Extra tags will be available in case some fall off during transportation.

The entry form tag can be found at High School Student Art Exhibition and should be filled out, printed, and then submitted electronically. This year, an individual entry form is available as well as the package of 20 forms. You may use whichever format you are most comfortable with.

The individual form (currently available) is for one artwork entry which is then submitted through the website without the use of email.

The package form (not available yet) containing multiple tags in one file makes it easier for teachers who fill out the forms for all of their students. Use as many multiple form files as necessary to cover all students submitting work. Leave blank what you don’t need. The file will be saved and submitted through the website without the use of email to cut down on problems with email.

For more information on submitting the electronic tags, contact Sheila Pfaff at spaff@kcc.edu or (815) 802-8704 when you are ready to submit them.

Liability

The vast majority of students participating in this exhibition do not have an established market price for their work (obtained by actively selling) and cannot, therefore, expect insurance coverage for their work (except for the cost of materials). The gallery will not assume liability for loss or damage of entries while in transit. Cost of works stolen or vandalized will be assumed by the gallery (recovery cost will be limited to materials only). Every reasonable precaution and care will be taken in handling and protecting entries while present on the KCC campus.

Students should see their instructor for additional help in preparing work. Entries that are not ready to hang, that fall apart, or have incomplete entry tags will be disqualified.

Awards – March 28

Merit awards and Honorable Mention awards will be given in the following areas: Painting; Black and white drawing/design; Color drawing/design; Three-dimensional work; and Photography/electronic imaging.

All participants will be eligible to apply for the $800 KCC High School Art Exhibit scholarship. The scholarship winner will be chosen by a review of exhibit pieces and a completed KCC Foundation scholarship application.  More information can be found on our website at Foundation>Students>Scholarships after the middle of January.  Once the new 2012-13 Scholarship Booklet is finished, there will be a link to it from this page and a link to the application.  Look for the scholarship for Fine Arts and follow the instructions on the application page.  Deadline for turning in the application is early April.

All exhibiting students will receive certificates of achievement.  Awards will be distributed at a reception for all artists and their guests Wednesday, March 28, in the lower level art gallery in KCC’s Learning Resource Center.
