HS Art Exhibition Entry Guidelines

 

KCC's annual 2017 High School Art Exhibition is held February 20 through March 14, 2017 in the KCC Harold and Jean Miner Memorial Library. Jurors are KCC art faculty.

Eligibility

This exhibition is open to high school students (grades 9-12) who are enrolled in art classes. Students may submit one (1) work that was completed for class credit in any art class. It must have been completed within the last year (Spring 2016, Fall 2016 and Spring 2017). Please note: A diptych will be considered one work but must be labeled “right panel” or “left panel” and must have “diptych” written on the form so we know it is two pieces that should be hung together.

Fee

There is no entry fee for this exhibition.

Specifications

Flatwork must be framed under Plexiglas (glass not allowed) or securely wrapped in acetate or shrink-wrap over a sturdy backing like corrugated cardboard or foam core.  All Plexiglas must have the safety film removed before delivery.

Securely fasten wires to artwork.The art must be securely wired. Double check the screws holding the wire in place, that there is no slipping. Wire should be no more than 1/3 of the way from the top of the piece, and must be fairly taut.

Do not knot the wire, but instead, wrap it multiple times around itself for a secure hold. Do not attach wire or string with tape. If necessary, hook paper clips into backing and attach wire to clips.

Three-dimensional entries are encouraged, with display cases available for small works and floor pedestals for larger pieces.

Tagging

Printed and electronic tags are required for each entry. Entry forms must be filled out clearly and completely. Tag information is taken directly from the entry form and is not retyped so please make sure all spelling is correct. Please do not type tags in all capital or all lowercase letters. All works submitted must be tagged with a fully completed entry form.

Please attach the printed form to the backside, upper right corner of all flatwork and to the bottom of three-dimensional works. The small bottom Tag B should be cut off and attached to the front on the lower right-hand side. (If using Chrome, Tag B will be split on two pages. Other web browsers print all on one page. For ex.: Explorer, Firefox.) Extra tags will be available in case some fall off during transportation.

The entry form tag can be found at the HS Art Exhibition Entry Form page. The entry form tag should be filled out completely (including Tag B), printed, and then submitted electronically. (If you submit before printing, all information will be lost for printing.) The file will be sent automatically as soon as you click Submit and you will receive a confirmation e-mail (sent to the e-mail on each form) after each submission.

Liability

The vast majority of students participating in this exhibition do not have an established market price for their work (obtained by actively selling) and cannot, therefore, expect insurance coverage for their work (except for the cost of materials). The gallery will not assume liability for loss or damage of entries while in transit. Cost of works stolen or vandalized will be assumed by the gallery (recovery cost will be limited to materials only). Every reasonable precaution and care will be taken in handling and protecting entries while present on the KCC campus.

Submission of work – Feb. 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8

Please make an appointment with Sheila (spfaff@kcc.edu or 815-802-8704) for delivery and check in of all work. Tags should be submitted 3-5 business days before delivery so a list of tags submitted can be created to compare to items being delivered. Hand-delivered works should be taken to the KCC art gallery in the lower level of the Harold and Jean Miner Memorial Library.

Hours for delivery are 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. There will be no weekend delivery. Deadline for delivery is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 8.

Schools are strongly encouraged to make group deliveries. If there are questions about delivery dates, please call Chelise Slowik at (815) 802-8717 or email her at cslowik@kcc.edu. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED — NO EXCEPTIONS!

Students should see their instructor for additional help in preparing work. Entries that are not ready to hang, that fall apart, or have incomplete entry tags will be disqualified.

Awards – March 14

Merit awards and Honorable Mention awards will be given in the following areas: Painting; Black and white drawing/design; Color drawing/design; Three-dimensional work; and Photography/electronic imaging.

All participants will be eligible to apply for the $800 KCC High School Art Exhibit scholarship which can be used toward tuition, books, and supplies for any KCC course. The scholarship winner will be chosen by a review of exhibit pieces and a completed KCC Foundation scholarship application. Look for the High School Art Exhibit and follow the instructions on the application page. Deadline for turning in the application is March 1.

All exhibiting students will receive certificates of achievement. Awards will be distributed at a reception for all artists and their guests Tuesday, March 14, in the lower level art gallery in KCC’s Harold and Jean Miner Memorial Library.

Return of work – March 14 - March 17

All art must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit. Works may not be removed before 8 p.m. on March 14. Please call if there are any other needs or problems. Deadline for picking up exhibited work is 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Work remaining after March 17 will be returned to the school C.O.D.
