International Education

KCC is investigating how to bring the world to our campus. We're developing a global perspective by encouraging international students to attend KCC, and by providing exchange opportunities for students, faculty and staff. Also, the college community is engaged in activities to increase awareness of other cultures.

Faculty exchanges

KCC is working with the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP) to facilitate exchanges with European faculty members. In 2006, Tim Wilhelm, KCC professor, participated in an exchange with Liisa Hiltunen, his counterpart from Finland. This year, Deborah Renville, also a KCC professor, is our participant, and Femmy Stevens, her counterpart from The Netherlands, will be on campus, as part of the exchange program.

Day of Learning

The Cultural Diversity and Affirmative Action Committee is planning a Day of Learning for Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007. This is an effort to make students, faculty, and staff more aware of the diversity of the world around them.

Intercultural course development

KCC has developed a number of intercultural courses over the past few years, including SOCY-2543 Race and Ethnic Relations, HUMS-1813 African-American Cultural Expression and HUMS-1833 Hispanic/Latino Culture. The first two courses have been approved as IAI general education classes with a diversity emphasis and the last is awaiting approval. Another addition to the curriculum has been PLSC-2613 Introduction to International Relations (also IAI general education) that studies the political interconnectedness of the world we live in.

Friendship Day

The KCC Cultural Diversity Committee annually plans a day of activities to promote cultural awareness across campus.
