To support the strategic sustainability goal "Expand KCC’s curriculum to support sustainability and the growing renewable energy industry...," the Campus Sustainability Advisory Committee has developed the following guidelines for sustainability courses and programs.
Student learning objectives in sustainability include these subject areas:
- Interconnectedness and interdependence
- The natural and built environment
- Sustainability and civic responsibility
- Sustainability and future employment
A complete list of learning objectives can be found in the Identifying Sustainability Courses and Programs at Kankakee Community College document.
A sustainability focused course or program concentrates on the concept of sustainability, including its social, economic, and environmental dimensions, or it examines an issue or topic using sustainability as a lens. If a course meets five or more of the defined learning objectives, it can be identified as a sustainability focused course.
A sustainability related course or program incorporates sustainability as a distinct component or module, or concentrates on a single sustainability principle or issue. If a course meets one or more defined learning objectives, it can be identified as a sustainability related course.
A list of courses offered at KCC and identified by faculty and associate deans using these guidelines is available.
