Campus Sustainability Advisory Committee
The KCC Campus Sustainability Advisory Committee guides campus-wide sustainability initiatives. Some projects include campus recycling; auditing energy consumption; curriculum and course development; Sustainability Week; and information for broadcast on WKCC 91.1 FM.
Council for Community Sustainability
The purpose of the Council for Community Sustainability is to advance sustainability into our community with a structured approach. The council acts as a think-tank and clearinghouse for ideas affecting community development and quality of life. The council also is a driving force for sustainability in the Kankakee area, the quad-counties, and the South Chicago Region.
The council focuses on initiatives such as recycling, local food, deconstruction, and other business and green initiatives. The council makes connections among citizens and groups and shares resources and knowledge in order to accelerate change and provide opportunities for obtaining additional resources, such as grants and funding.
The council sponsors Green Drinks, Kankakee, a public outreach group created as part of KCC's community sustainability initiatives. Green Drinks is an opportunity for "green-minded" people to meet informally in a relaxed setting to exchange ideas and network. Green Drinks is happening in more than 84 countries and 806 cities, including all 50 states. Visit http://www.greendrinks.org/IL/Kankakee to learn more and see upcoming events.
