If you are new to KCC, see your department chair or program director to:
-
Obtain a network account to access GroupWise Email, KCConnect, and KCC's computer network [O: Drive]. You will have access to your email from both on and off campus. KCConnect gives you access to your class lists, paycheck/direct deposit advices, change of address/phone number, and online submission of grades. You can access KCConnect through KCC's home page at www.kcc.edu. You can access various KCC forms and templates (i.e. Master Syllabus), from the [O: Drive] on KCC's computer network from both on and off campus.
-
Obtain a KCC voice mailbox extension. You will have access to your voice mail from both on and off campus.
-
Secure your office space, keys/keypad code, office supplies, gradebook, and the location of your faculty mailbox.
-
Familiarize yourself with your classroom and its computer/AV equipment.
-
Obtain a photo ID card. For safety and security purposes, as well as for use in the Learning Resource Center and special college events, all faculty members are required to obtain a photo ID. During peak times (one week before classes begin and the first week of classes), ID cards may be obtained in Room L20B. During the rest of the semester, ID cards may be obtained in the Learning Resource Center. A driver's license may be required to verify identity before a staff ID is issued. Staff cards are valid until the end of a person's employment.
-
Obtain a parking permit. All faculty and staff must register their vehicle in the Office of Business Affairs and Human Resources, where required parking decals are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Any vehicle not displaying a current decal may be parked only in the student and/or visitor lots. Instructors who wish to park in the reserved space for adjunct faculty (the last three rows of the staff parking lot located just south of Building V/Technology) will need to obtain a parking decal.
-
Obtain a copy of the Adjunct Faculty Handbook and College Catalog. The Adjunct Faculty Handbook is available online at www.kcc.edu under the Adjunct Faculty Resources section of the Faculty and Staff link. It is also available on the college's computer network at [O:\Share\KCC\Adjunct Faculty Handbook]. See your division chair/program director to obtain a hard copy. The college catalog is available online at www.kcc.edu under the catalog link listed under the "Quick Links" section of the college home page. Hard copies of the college catalog may be obtained in Student Services.
All adjunct faculty members must:
-
Review the Adjunct Faculty Handbook to assure you are aware of current policies and procedures.
-
Prepare and distribute a course syllabus to each student in accordance with the model format located on the college's computer network at [O:\Share\KCC\Master Syllabus].
-
Complete 10th Day Class List(s) as directed. The 10th Day Class List includes only officially enrolled students. If a student's name does not appear on the 10th Day Class List, the student is not officially enrolled.Such students are to be referred immediately to the Office of Admissions and Registration to clarify their status.Faculty members are to deny admission to class to any student who is not officially enrolled.Initial attendance of all students must be recorded at the start of the semester or term.Failure to provide attendance will cause financial problems for students and reimbursement issues for the college. Therefore, it is extremely important for instructors to document students who have not attended class at least once on the 10th Day Class List and submit the signed form to the Office of Admissions and Registration by the set deadline date.
-
Submit midterm grades to the Office of Admissions and Registration by noon on the Friday of midterm week.
-
Complete Midterm Claim Roster(s) as directed. The Illinois Community College Board requires colleges to verify enrollment of students at midterm via instructor certification of class lists. At KCC, a student shall be determined to be currently enrolled and actively pursuing completion of a course at midterm if there is a possibility that the student can complete all requirements for the course by the end of the semester or term in which enrolled. Each instructor must determine whether or not a student is currently enrolled and actively pursuing completion of his/her course. The instructor shall provide certification by signing the Midterm Claim Roster. Midterm Claim Rosters are available through the Office of Admissions and Registration within two weeks of mid-term grades. For record keeping purposes, it is extremely important that Midterm Claim Rosters are signed by the set deadline date. During the fall and spring terms, the Midterm Claim Roster must be signed in order to receive the next payroll check after midterm. During the summer, the claim roster is signed at the end of the course.
-
Conduct student evaluations as directed by your division chair/program director.
-
End of Semester Responsibilities: Turn in any checked out materials from the Learning Resource Center as well as any equipment checked out from the Media Department. Sumbit final course grades to the Office of Admissions and Registration by noon on Friday of final examination week. Turn in to your division chair or program director, any KCC keys and copies of each course syllabus, unit objectives, tests, and quizzes. As a reminder, your final paycheck will not be released until the payroll department receives (2) two release forms: one, from the Office of Admissions and Registration after your final grades are submitted and the other, from your division chair/program director after copies of your couse syllabus, unit objectives, tests, quizzes, and any KCC keys are turned in.
