Honors and Awards

Designed and built several generations of a co-rotating Faraday dynamo, one model of which included an original design for liquid-metal brushes (mercury sliding contacts). David W. Taylor Naval Research Laboratory and DARPA were working on similar designs for their Rail Gun projects.

Received a $50,000 grant from USDOE to design and pilot-test a fuel alcohol production facility suitable for operation by a farm co-op. Successful pilot-plant operation led to 25 sheets of blueprints and a 200+ page manual which was made available to the public through the NTIS. The project was lauded by DOE personnel as the best of all the projects funded by the USDOE's Appropriate Technology Grants program.

Received a $65,000 grant from Illinois Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DOENR) to design and build a commercial-sized, solar greenhouse, 30 feet wide by 100 feet long. This project also resulted in a comprehensive design package, which was submitted to the Illinois DOENR just prior to being dissolved by the State legislature.

Designed and installed a stand alone, photovoltaic electric-power system for Stelle Telephone Company, making it the first solar-electric powered telephone exchange in the USA. Managed the process of establishing Stelle Telephone Company as an internet service provider. This system is also photovoltaic powered.

Acquired and participated in the installation of a 25KW Carter wind-powered generator on behalf of The Stelle Group. This water treatment plant is the first village utility in Illinois to be powered by a wind generator.
