Donnie Gardner Sr., Asst. Men's Basketball Coach 

Donnie Gardner Sr.

Assistant Coach Donnie Gardner Sr. is in his first season with the Cavaliers. Gardner has an extensive background working with youth in multiple sports. He coached and mentored youth from ages 5-18 in the Youth Basketball Association from 1986-99, he was an assistant at Beasley Academic Center from 1994-96, and he coached Little League Baseball from 1987-1996 with South Side Little League and Jackie Robinson West. Coach Gardner also served as attendance coordinator at Whitney Young High School from 1996-2001.

Coach Gardner was an All-Section 3 letter quarterback at DuSable High School from 1961-63. He attended Kennedy-King College in Chicago from 1964-66. He has a passion to 16-inch softball, and was a player and coach from 1966 thru 1996. In 2005, his contributions over 32 years to the sport were recognized with an induction into the Chicago 16-inch softball Hall of Fame.

Coach Gardner retired from the Chicago Transit Authority in 2011 after 25 years of service in technology management.
