Men's Basketball Assistant Coaches 

Richard Baker

Coach Richard Baker ended his second year as an assistant coach at KCC. Coach Baker is a graduate of Westview High School in Kankakee. Coach Baker has followed Cavaliers basketball for more than 30 years. He has a natural eye for talent and a tremendous knack for recruitment. He will be directly responsible for recruiting players, and he has begun making connections with prominent high school programs from last season. Coach Baker and his wife, Sue, reside in Kankakee.

 

Steve Whitlow

Coach Whitlow finished his second year as an assistant coach at KCC. He is a graduate of Westview High School in Kankakee, where he was the starting point guard and were ranked No. 4 in the state during his junior year. Coach Whitlow went on to play at Kentucky State University and then joined the military for eight years. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in 1986. “Coach Whitlow is a great asset to this staff because of his ability to teach and motivate players,” stated Head Coach Joseph Lightfoot. “He has a great eye for situational basketball.” Whitlow resides in Kankakee.

 

Scott Deatherage

Coach Deatherage is in his second year as assistant men’s basketball coach. He is a 1985 graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. He spent six years in the United States Air Force. Coach Detherage also has been plant manager at JR Short Milling Company for the past 18 years and boy’s golf coach at Bishop McNamara High School for the past seven years. Scott and his wife, Amanda, reside in Kankakee.
