In March 2000, Head Coach Gary Sien came to KCC from Chicago to take over the reins of the Cavalier volleyball program.
A veteran coach of more than 700 matches, Sien has compiled 379 wins in women’s volleyball and 530 wins overall.
In nine seasons at KCC, Sien’s teams have produced two Region IV titles, eighteen All-Region athletes and six All-Americans.
Previously, Sien was head volleyball coach at Trinity International University in Deerfield and Kendall College in Evanston, both National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) institutions.
At Trinity, Sien coached the men’s program for seven seasons and the women’s program for four seasons between 1989 and 1995. During that period, the men captured two conference championships and third place at NAIA Nationals. Sien was the 1991 Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year in his first season as the women’s coach at Trinity.
Sien’s other accomplishments at Trinity include coaching three conference Player of the Year winners and three All-Americans.
At Kendall College, he helped the women’s volleyball team compile winning seasons during his two-year stint as the assistant coach. In 1998, Sien headed up the first Kendall men’s volleyball team.
Coach Sien is a 1989 graduate of Trinity International University, then called Trinity College, with a major in physical education and a minor in Old Testament Studies.
As a student at Trinity, he played on the men’s volleyball team, which he helped form. Sien was captain and named most valuable player twice in college. He also received All-Conference honors his junior and senior years.
In addition, Sien toured Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela while competing internationally with the Athletes in Action volleyball team in 1986.
Along with his coaching duties, Sien serves as coordinator of the KCC Fitness Center.
