CDL | Pharmacy Technician | Home Inspector | Contractor Safety Program
Home Inspectors
The Home Inspection Certification Program is a comprehensive 80-hour course. It is designed for anyone who wants to learn the profession of home inspection. The 10-subject program concentrates on practical knowledge, not theory. Systems and components taught include roofing, structure, electrical, heating, air conditioning/heat pumps, plumbing, exterior, attics and ventilation, insulation and the interior. Instruction also will include report writing, field training and a course exam. Topics are organized to present the materials used in the construction of each house system and how they are assembled. Content covers what may go wrong as well as the cause and the implications of problems that result. Clear direction is given about what to look for during inspections, including: signs of non-performance due to old age, deferred maintenance, weather damage, and poor workmanship. Course will provide participants with the communication skills and knowledge of professional practice required to be successful in this growing industry. Information will be provided by KCC's Small Business Development Center on starting and marketing a home inspection business.
The Home Inspection Certification Program meets the certification standards of the state of Illinois. As of January 2003, the state regulates this occupation under the Office of Banks and Real Estate. Home inspectors will be required to apply for a license. All licensure applications must be 21 years of age or older; high school graduate or equivalent; have completed an approved course in home inspection-such as this course; have passed the course final exam; and have successfully passed the certification examination authorized by OBRE. Participants must schedule their own certification examination with an approved OBRE examination site. Certification exam fee is not included in the course.
The state of Illinois defines a minimum and uniform standard for private, fee-paid home inspectors. This curriculum meets requirement for completion of a home inspection course. It is presented by the Bellman Group and KCC.
The cost of the course is $1,500, which includes all materials.
