Courses in energy efficiency and renewable energy are available to increase awareness of energy management programs and practices for residents, businesses, and building operators.
Energy Efficiency Programs and Services by SEDAC
Attend this luncheon sponsored by the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) of the Illinois Small Business Smart Energy Design Assistance Program and learn about the free programs and services available to business owners.
Energy Efficiency in Business
This session will help small business owners identify opportunities to save energy and money by offering four levels of service—initial consultation, energy audits, design assistance, cost and design analyses—from the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC).
Introduction to Energy Auditing—Train the Trainer
Participants in this course will learn how to make recommendations on short, medium and long-term measures for energy conservation along with financial estimates and analysis for their implementation. Some course objectives include: accurate monitoring of the consumption of utilities, reduction of energy consumption, elimination of waste, and massive savings in cost and increases in revenue.
Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems: Introductory and Advanced
Learn about the HVAC choice the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has called the most energy and cost-efficient heating and cooling technology. Find out how a geothermal system works, various design options, sizing considerations, life cycle costs, energy savings, LEED advantage, maintenance and care.
Basic Photovoltaics (Solar Power)
Participants in this workshop will learn the basics of photovoltaic systems. Topics will include definition of photovoltaics, how photovoltaics work, the four system types, descriptions and identification of components, the best application and limitations of each system type, solar windows, energy efficiency and load estimates, photovoltaic mounting types and the basics of site assessment tools.
Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems
Learn how to use the sun’s energy to heat domestic water for showers, sinks, and washers. This class provides an overview of a variety of system types and will include an examination of an on-site solar hot water heating system.
Residential Efficiency for the Homebuilder, Residential Contractor and Homeowner
This course will cover combustion safety, air infiltration testing, air sealing, ventilation and ventilation equipment, duct leakage, duct sealing, HVAC and energy diagnostic equipment. This training is geared toward residential applications, including homebuilders, contractors, HVAC and insulation contractors, homeowners, and energy consultants.
Building Operator Certification (BOC)
This certification training provides nearly 80 hours of classroom and project work in building systems operation and maintenance. Participants must pass an exam at the end of each training session.
- Building Systems Overview
- Energy Conservation Techniques
- Facility Electrical Systems
- Efficient Lighting Fundamentals
- HVAC Systems and Controls
- Indoor Air Quality
- Environmental Health & Safety Regulations
Building Performance Institute's Building Analyst Training
Participants will learn how to manage the integrated systems that are responsible for the transfer and use of energy, moisture transport, and air movement that builders must know to build energy-efficient buildings.
