A2 Entrance Exam

Most health careers programs require you to take the A2 Entrance Exam (HESI A2). Scores will be used for the competitive entrance process. 

The A2 Entrance Exam applies to these programs:

  • Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Medical Laboratory Technology Advanced Placement Option I
  • Paramedic
  • Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Practical Nursing
  • Radiography
  • Registered Nursing
  • Registered Nursing Advanced Placement Option I
  • Respiratory Therapist

Test timeframes

It is highly recommended that an applicant prepare to take the A2 Entrance Exam during the timeframes provided. This will ensure that the applicant has adequate time to test and plan a re-test if applicable.​


December-February (Summer 2016 Admission​)

A copy of your Student Eligibility Check Sheet signed by the health career advisor must be brought to the Accounting Office at KCC to pay the exam fee of $35. Once the fee has been paid, you will schedule the exam date in the Health Career division office,W102,​ during the designated testing cycle.

Ranking and eligibility 

After testing, all eligible students will be ranked based on test scores. In order to be ranked, the student must receive a minimum qualifying score. Eligible students who are not offered a seat will be alternates.

Tie-breaking rules

If a choice must be made among a number of applicants with the same test scores, selection for admission will be made on the basis of:​ 

  1. completion of the greatest number of non-MEDT, -PMED, -PHTA, -PNUR, -RESP, -RNUR, or -XRAY courses in the curriculum then,
  2. Which applicant(s) has the highest comprehensive score in the area of Science on the A2 Entrance Exam and if  a tie still occurs, then​​
  3. Which applicant(s) has the highest comprehensive score in the area of Reading on the A2 Entrance.
