Enrolling in KCC's College Credit Division courses is a simple seven-step process.
- Submit an Admissions Form.
- Request Transcripts
- Apply for scholarships and financial aid.
- Take COMPASS, the placement test
- Make an advisement appointment.
- Register and get your student ID.
- Attend orientation.
Complete a KCC Admissions Form. Please answer all applicable questions, check all applicable boxes, and sign. Forms should be mailed to KCC, Office of Admissions and Registration, 100 College Drive, Kankakee, IL 60901 or faxed to 815-802-8521. Since KCC has an open enrollment policy, you do not need to wait for an acceptance letter to move to the next step.
Ask your high school, or GED testing center, and other colleges you have attended to mail an official transcript directly to: KCC Office of Admissions and Registration; 100 College Drive, Kankakee, IL 60901. Photocopies and faxes are not accepted as official. If you are registering at KCC before you graduate from high school, request that your current transcript be mailed to KCC now and a final transcript be mailed after graduation. Your current transcript will be used for advisement purposes.
The first step to apply for financial aid is to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and an application for a KCC Foundation Scholarship. These forms are available online, at local high schools, and in the Office of Financial Aid, located in Student Services.
You are encouraged to apply for financial aid by May 1 if you plan to attend KCC in the fall or by Sept. 1 if you plan to attend KCC the following spring. The application deadline for most KCC scholarships is April 9 for awards given in the fall. For more information, phone 815-802-8550.
The purpose of assessment testing is to place you in the classes most appropriate to your academic ability. You will not be denied admission to KCC based on your assessment scores; however, you may need to enroll in preparatory courses before taking other higher-level courses. If you took the ACT and received scores at the designated levels, this test may not be necessary.
New students may test on a walk-in basis during testing center hours. For more information, visit the testing center's website or phone 815-802-8500. The assessment test takes about 2 1/2 hours. Please allow an additional 15 to 20 minutes before testing to verify eligibility with an adviser. Therefore, please arrive at least three hours before the Testing Center closes. The COMPASS test is free.
Phone 815-802-8500 and schedule an appointment for academic advisement to occur after testing is complete. Potentially, you can test and meet with an advisor on the same day. Your academic advisor will be assigned based on your chosen curriculum.
As part of the registration process, it is recommended that you fill out a schedule planning sheet.
After you determine your class schedule with an advisor, you are ready to complete your registration for classes.
Registration begins...
Fall Semester: the preceding April
Spring Semester: the preceding October
Summer Term: the preceding March
Consult the class schedule for payment deadlines for tuition and fees. Tuition and fees are paid in the Accounting Office near Student Services on KCC's second floor. Cash, checks, Visa®, MasterCard® and Discover® are accepted. Tuition payment plans and online payment options also are available.
All college credit students are required to have a KCC photo ID and to have it validated every semester/term. After registering, go to the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to obtain your ID.
All first-time full-time students are required to attend an orientation session before or during their first semester at KCC. Part-time students are encouraged to attend as well. This session will provide important information about KCC's services, policies and procedures and provide the opportunity to discuss academic expectations with a faculty member. You can register for a session during your first advisement appointment.
