Kankakee Community College’s Licensed Practical Nursing Program is ranked second in Illinois by practicalnursing.org.
The ranking is based on current and historical NCLEX-PN (National Council of Licensure Exams) pass rates. The list includes community college and diploma programs. There are 38 programs which were ranked, and eight of the top 10 colleges on the list are community colleges.
“Students in our nursing programs work extremely hard,” said Kellee Hayes, MSN, RN, CNE, director of KCC’s nursing programs. “They put in a lot of effort and were ready for the NCLEX. Our faculty did a great job making sure they were preparing and delivering a curriculum which meets current needs.”
KCC’s pass rate on the NCLEX-PN exam for 2017 was 100 percent. It has had a 100 percent pass rate for the past five years. The top ranked school in practicalnursing.org’s ranking was Spoon River College, also with a 100 percent pass rate. Spoon River earned the top spot by having more graduates than KCC.
At KCC, students take the NCLEX-PN exam upon completion of the one-year advanced certificate in practical nursing. The program has a competitive entry process, and accepts new students each fall. It incorporates classroom lectures, clinical experiences and lab demonstrations. The program is designed to prepare students for work in hospital departments, as well as in long-term care, home care, business and industry, outpatient clinics, public agencies, and physicians’ offices.
LPNs also can apply for advanced placement into KCC’s registered nursing program.
For information about entry requirements, consult with a KCC advisor or the program director, Kellee Hayes, at email@example.com, or phone 815-802-8828.
