    AS OF JUNE 1, 2008:

    An individual is eligible to take the GED Test given they meet the guidelines listed below:
  • They are 17 years of age or older;
  • They are not a high school graduate or a GED graduate; and
  • They have maintained residence in the State of llinois for thirty days.
  • Note: If an individual is of school age and has been enrolled in a public, private, or a home school setting in the last 12 months, they must present a withdrawal letter from the last school enrolled before taking the GED test.

    Schedule to test at KCC. Phone 815-802-8530. Testing is usually on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays and Wednesdays and designated Saturdays each month. Check the dates on the GED Testing Schedule above. Testing is by appointment only. Please keep your appointment as a courtesy to other potential examinees, since space is limited. If you cannot keep your appointment, please phone by the Friday before your scheduled test date.

Bring required items. For your first test session, you must bring:

  • The white copy of your application.
  • Identification (a government-issued photo ID, e.g. a driver's license).

We will provide you with a pencil, a pen, scratch paper, a calculator and tissues as needed. Arrive 30 minutes before the testing session to allow time to complete admission requirements. Refer to the GED Testing Schedule. Those who arrive late are not admitted.

Retests:

An applicant who fails to make the required scores on the GED Tests may be retested on the entire battery or the individual test that was failed. GED Testing Service regulations prohibit taking any of the GED Tests more than three times during any calendar year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31). GED tests taken more than three times during a year may be invalidated and the applicant may be subject to an additional waiting period before being allowed to take the GED Tests again.

A retest may be scheduled for the time during which that test is normally administered. For example: a re-test for social studies must be scheduled for a session when Set B is to be administered. As of July 1, 2009, Retest fees are $15 for the writing test and $10 for each of the others. Retest fees are paid at the college on the day of testing. There is no charge to retake the constitution test.
