Payment of the $50 testing fee (as of July 1, 2009) is required at the time of application. An application form and a separate demographics booklet must be completed at the Regional Superintendent's office. You must fill out your paperwork no later than noon on Thursday in order to schedule for the next testing date.

Dr. Kay Pangle is the regional superintendent for both Kankakee and Iroquois counties. If you live in Kankakee County, the phone number to call with questions is (815) 937-2950. The address for the Kankakee County office is 189 E. Court St., Suite 600 (corner of Court Street and Schuyler Avenue). In Iroquois County, the office is at the courthouse in Watseka, 550 S. 10th St., Watseka, IL 60970. Iroquois County residents should phone (815) 432-6976.

    AS OF JUNE 1, 2008:

An individual is eligible to take the GED Test given they meet the guidelines listed below:
  • They are 17 years of age or older;
  • They are not a high school graduate or a GED graduate; and
  • They have maintained residence in the State of llinois for thirty days.

Note: If an individual is of school age and has been enrolled in a public, private, or a home school setting in the last 12 months, they must present a withdrawal letter from the last school enrolled before taking the GED Test.

Schedule to test at Kankakee Community College. Phone (815) 802-8530. Testing is usually on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays and Wednesdays and one Saturday each month. Check the dates on the GED Testing Schedule above. Testing is by appointment only. Please keep your appointment as a courtesy to other potential examinees, since space is limited. If you cannot keep your appointment, please phone by the Friday before your scheduled test date.

Bring required items. For your first test session, you must bring:

  • The white copy of your application.
  • Identification (a government-issued photo ID, e.g. a driver's license).
  • Note: Bring your photo ID each time you test if you test on more than one date.
  • Report to Room D217 (located on the second floor of KCC's Workforce Development Center).
Arrive early and bring only the basic necessities. Arrive 30 minutes before the testing session to allow time to complete admission requirements. Refer to the GED Testing Schedule. Those who arrive late are not admitted.

    Retests:

An applicant who fails to make the required scores on the GED Tests may be retested on the entire battery or the individual test that was failed. GED Testing Service regulations prohibit taking any of the GED Tests more than three times during any calendar year (January 1-December 31). GED Tests taken more than three times during a year may be invalidated and the applicant may be subject to an additional waiting period before being allowed to take the GED Tests again.

A retest may be scheduled for the time during which that test is normally administered. For example: a re-test for social studies must be scheduled for a session when Set B is to be administered. As of July 1, 2009, Retest fees are $15 for the writing test and $10 for each of the others. Retest fees are paid at the college on the day of testing. There is no charge to retake the constitution test.

Each applicant for an Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate must also pass an examination on the Constitution of the United States of America, the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and the proper use and display of the American Flag as provided in Section 27-3 of the School Code. Qualified Illinois residents who apply for the High School Equivalency Certificate may take the Constitution Examination at an Official GED Testing Center, an authorized Adult Education Program, or the Regional Superintendent's office. If the applicant cannot appear in person (i.e., service personnel), he/she must advise the Regional Superintendent of the name and address of his/her Commanding Officer, Educational Advisor, or school official who will agree to administer the examination under secure conditions and return to the Regional Superintendent for evaluation. An applicant who fails the Constitution Examination will be permitted to review the subject and subsequently be retested.

Dress in layers for variations in temperature in the testing room.

Bring only basic necessities in to the testing room. Do not bring electronic devices, food, drink or large bags. We will provide you with a pencil, a pen, scratch paper, a calculator and tissues as needed.
