Enroll In 7 Easy Steps

Enrolling in KCC's College Credit Division courses is a simple seven-step process.

  1. Submit an Admissions Form.
  2. Submit high school/GED transcripts.
  3. Apply for scholarships and financial aid.
  4. Make an assessment testing appointment.
  5. Make an advisement appointment.
  6. Register and get your student ID.
  7. Attend orientation.

Submit an Admissions Form

Complete a KCC Admissions Form. Answer all applicable questions and check all applicable boxes. If you have not taken a class at KCC in more than two years, you may be required to file for re-admission to the college.

When the form is completed, bring or mail it to Kankakee Community College, Office of Admissions and Registration, 100 College Drive, Kankakee, IL 60901.

Submit high school/GED transcripts

Ask your high school or GED testing center to mail an official transcript directly to KCC. Photocopies and faxes will not be accepted. If you are registering at KCC before you graduate from high school, request that your current transcript be mailed to KCC now and a final transcript be mailed after graduation. Your current transcript will be used for advisement purposes.

Apply for scholarships and financial aid

The first step to apply for financial aid is to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid and an application for a KCC Foundation Scholarship. These forms are available at local high schools and in the Office of Financial Aid, located in Student Services.

You are encouraged to apply for financial aid by May 1 if you plan to attend KCC in the fall or by Sept. 1 if you plan to attend KCC the following spring. The application deadline for most KCC scholarships is March 15 for awards given in the fall. For more information, phone (815) 802-8552.

Make an assessment testing appointment

The purpose of assessment testing is to place you in the classes most appropriate to your academic ability. You will not be denied admission to KCC based on your assessment scores; however, you may need to enroll in preparatory courses before taking other higher-level courses. If you took the ACT and received scores at the designated levels, this test may not be necessary.

New students may test on a walk-in basis during testing center hours. To make an assessment appointment or for more information, phone (815) 802-8500. The assessment test takes about 2 1/2 hours. It is free.

Make an advisement appointment

At the time you make an appointment for assessment testing, you also can make an appointment for academic advisement. Your academic adviser will be assigned based on your chosen curriculum. The same receptionist at (815) 802-8500 can make both appointments.

Advisers are available 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.

Register and get your student ID

After you determine your class schedule with an adviser, you are ready to complete your registration for classes.

Registration for fall classes begins the preceding April; registration for spring classes begin the preceding October; registration for summer classes begins the preceding March.

Consult this class schedule and payment deadlines for when tuition and fees are due. Tuition and fees are paid in the Accounting Office near Student Services on KCC's second floor. Cash, checks, Visa®, MasterCard® and Discover® are accepted. Tuition payment plans and online payment options also are available.

All college credit students are required to have a KCC photo ID and to have it validated every semester/term. After registering, go to the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to obtain your ID.

Attend orientation

KCC requires  first-time, full-time students to attend an orientation session before or during their first semsester at KCC. Part-time students are encouraged to attend as well. This session will provide important information about KCC services, policies and procedures and provide the opportunity to discuss academic expectations with a faculty member. Students will register for a session during their first advisement appointment.
