Kankakee Community College (KCC) is pleased to offer Federal Stafford Student Loans and Federal Stafford Parent PLUS Loans. The process is the same for both types of loans. To begin the process you will complete either the Stafford Student Loan Form or the Parent PLUS Loan Form. The form needs to be completed accurately, signed and returned to the Office of Financial Aid. You need to make sure to read the Borrower Certification and Authorizations page. When you sign the Loan Form you are certifying you understand the Borrower Certification and Authorizations and terms and conditions of the advances and loans.

Apply for Stafford/PLUS Loans

Please read the attached Loan Policy. This provides you with all the information about loan limits at KCC, loan amounts per term, and the percentage of disbursement with disbursement times during a term.

Next, print and complete either the Stafford Student Loan Form or the Parent PLUS Loan Form. If completing the PLUS form, the parent must also return a copy of citizenship documentation. This could be a U.S. birth certificate or citizen/naturalization document. 

The form needs to be completed accurately, signed and returned to the Office of Financial Aid. You need to make sure to read the Borrower Certification and Authorizations page (located on the second page of the Loan Forms below or on the back of the printed Loan Forms). When you sign the Loan Form you are certifying you understand the Borrower Certification and Authorizations and terms and conditions of the advances and loans.

Once you have turned in the applicable loan form, the Office of Financial Aid will process your request. Due to high volume, this process can take up to four (4) weeks or more. If there is additional information needed, we will send a letter requesting that information. Otherwise, you will receive a Loan Award Letter stating your financial aid awards and your estimated loan eligibility.

The Department of Education requires all students to complete loan entrance counseling. We require the loan counseling be done the first time a student applies for a Stafford loan at KCC. Federal regulations for student loans change each year. If it has been more than three (3) years since loan counseling was completed, KCC requires the student to complete the loan counseling again. KCC will determine if you need to complete this loan counseling. You will receive a Loan Award Letter that will tell you to "Complete Mapping Your Future loan entrance counseling" or "Complete a Master Promissory Note with EDFund."

Mapping Your Future

When you recieve your Loan Award Letter from KCC, sign, date and return the white copy to the Office of Financial Aid. Keep the salmon copy of the award letter and the Important Information About Your Stafford Student Loan pages for your records.

Your loan will not be activated until you have 1) completed the Mapping Your Future loan entrance counseling and 2) completed your Master Promisory Note (MPN) with EDFund.

1) To begin Mapping Your Future loan entrance counseling click on Mapping Your Future page. This will take you to the KCC page on the Mapping Your Future web site. Read each page and answer the questions at the bottom of each page. You are not finished until you print your confirmation page. 

2) At the bottom of the confirmation page you will see a link for EDFund MPN.  To complete your Master Promissory Note (MPN) with EDFund, click on the EDFund Link. This will take you to the KCC page on the EDFund web site.  The lender you chose on your Federal Stafford Student Loan Form (Federal Stafford Parent PLUS Loan Form) will automatically be selected for you as you move through the EDFund page answering questions. Please have your FAFSA Pin number ready to sign the MPN. If you do not have a pin number, please print the MPN, sign it, and mail it to the address provided. If prompted, complete all other required information.


EDFund

When you recieve your Loan Award Letter from KCC, sign, date and return the white copy to the Office of Financial Aid. Keep the salmon copy of the award letter and the Important Information About Your Stafford Student Loan pages for your records.

To complete your Master Promissory Note (MPN), click on EDFund MPN. This will take you to the KCC page on the EDFund web site. The lender you chose on your Federal Stafford Student Loan Form (Federal Stafford Parent PLUS Loan Form) will automatically be selected for you as you move through the EDFund page answering questions. Please have your FAFSA Pin number ready to sign the MPN. If you do not have a pin number, please print the MPN, sign it, and mail it to the address provided. If prompted, complete all other required information.

If you also have a Parent PLUS loan, the student will do one MPN for their Stafford loans and the Parent will do one MPN for the Parent PLUS loan.

Other Lender/Guarantors

When you recieve your Loan Award Letter from KCC, sign, date and return the white copy to the Office of Financial Aid. Keep the salmon copy of the award letter and the Important Information About Your Stafford Student Loan pages for your records.

Your loan will not be activated until you have completed your Master Promisory Note (MPN) with your lender. 

IDAPP

To complete your Master Promissory Note (MPN) for IDAPP click on IDAPP MPN.  On the IDAPP "Apply On-Line Choose Your School" screen select Kankakee Community College then click continue.  As a new user you will need to create an account.  Read and follow the instructions and make sure to record your “Username,” Password,” and “Security Question” information.  Finally, click “Yes” to agree to receive student loan information and click on “Create Account” at the bottom of the page.  Continue through the Stafford Loan MPN application.  E-sign your MPN and click the “Complete” button.  You may need your FAFSA PIN number to sign your MPN.

If you also have a Parent PLUS loan, the student will do one MPN for their Stafford loans and the Parent will do one MPN for the Parent PLUS loan.

Great Lakes Higher Education (National City Bank/Discover Student Loans)

To complete your Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Great Lakes Higher Education click on GLHE MPN.  On the Great Lakes "Loan Application" page, read through the page and the "Online Loan Application Terms and Conditions."  Finally, check the box if you agree to the terms and conditions and click continue.  Select loan type Stafford and enter KCC's school ID: 00769000.  You may also enter the state and school if you do not remember our school ID.  Again click continue. Continue through the Stafford Loan MPN application.  E-sign your MPN and click the “Complete” button.  You may need your FAFSA PIN number to sign your MPN.

If you also have a Parent PLUS loan, the student will do one MPN for their Stafford loans and the Parent will do one MPN for the Parent PLUS loan.
