Joseph Williams

KCC Student, Electronics Technology
Associate in Applied Science Program

Joe WilliamsWhat classes have you taken at KCC? I am mainly taking electrical classes. I’ve already received a certificate in Residential and Industrial Wiring and Programmable Logic Controls.

Why did you decide to come to KCC? I decided to come to KCC because of the great electrical program. Also, my uncle graduated from the electrical program.

What have been your favorite experiences as a college student? My favorite experiences at KCC have been working with teachers Tim Wilhelm and Pat Klette as a lab assistant. I learn a lot from them.

What are some of the things you learned in your classes that make a difference for you now? One thing I learned from my National Electric Code class was how to wire houses according to code and how to bend conduit. Another valuable lesson I have learned is that you have to work hard for your grades because nothing is given to you.

How have the instructors had an impact on your success as a student? Two of the most intelligent instructors I have ever had are Tim Wilhelm and Pat Klette. They have impacted me as a student tremendously. I’ve learned more than just electrical knowledge, things such as hard work, perseverance, working with others, and helping my classmates.

Did you receive a scholarship? Why do you think scholarships and financial aid are important for students? Scholarships and financial aid are important to students because it helps the ones who are economically disadvantaged to pay for their education. I received the Reddish Family Scholarship this past year. I was very thankful to obtain it.

What do you think of the classrooms and campus settings here? The classroom settings are inspirational because they have good equipment and great professors.

In five years, what do you plan to be doing? Five years from now, I plan to be working for Amtrak with most of my family. I plan to establish a KCC scholarship.

What was your experience like balancing school and work? Going to school and working two jobs has been difficult, but it’s necessary in life.

Did you find it difficult paying for college given the current state of the economy? The terrible economic days have not overly affected me. I feel fortunate to have received financial aid and a scholarship.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your KCC experience? I would like to inform people that KCC is a great college with teachers who care about their students.
