Why Choose KCC

KCC is a great choice for serious students looking to gain a top-notch college education and avoid the higher costs at universities and four-year colleges.

Whether looking to transfer after a few semesters or go directly into the workforce, KCC can provide the education needed to succeed with more than 40 degrees options and more than 45 certificates and mini-certificates. With an emphasis on student service and a collegewide commitment to excellence, KCC offers you the ideal environment for learning.

KCC courses are taught by extremely qualified and motivated teachers who put students first. Many of KCC's professors have the highest degree in their fields. With an 19 to 1 student to faculty ratio, KCC has more than 140 full- and part-time instructors for college credit classes. And small class sizes allow students to receive individualized attention.

Value

KCC offers a quality education at very affordable prices. The direct cost (tuition, fees and books) of attending KCC full-time for one year is about $3,500. This is about 75% less than the cost for one year at a state university. It's also a fraction of what it would cost you to attend a private college for one year.

Tuition at KCC is based on how many credit hours you take each semester. A full-time student should take 15-16 credit hours each semester to complete a KCC degree in two years. KCC's current tuition is $76 a credit hour, plus a $8 activity fee per credit hour. So, 15 hours would cost about $1,260 for tuition and general fees for one semester. This would total just over $2,500 for a full year. On average, expect to pay about $490 per semester for textbooks if you are taking 15 semester hours for a total of about $980 per year.

Though cost is certainly a consideration, what makes KCC a value are the services for students, class selections and faculty dedication. KCC delivers an array of student services unparalleled at other community colleges, including tutoring, support services, mentors and attentive advisers. KCC's exceptional faculty coordinates and teaches more than 50 program choices delivering top-notch educational opportunities in our own backyard

Good Start

KCC offers a solid educational foundation. With an emphasis on student service and a collegewide commitment to educational excellence, KCC offers an ideal environment for learning.

If earning a bachelor's degree is your goal, KCC is the right choice for your first two years of college. More than 60% of KCC students plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. Typically, KCC students who transfer to four-year colleges and universities earn higher GPAs at the four-year school than the students who began there as freshmen.

KCC offers transfer programs designed to fulfill the general education requirements and some prerequisites for a bachelor's degree at a senior institution.

KCC offers more than 25 occupational programs that can prepare you to enter the job market for the first time, help you upgrade your current job skills or retrain to enter a new career field. Our degree programs have earned recognition and distinction among area employers. Two of the area's largest employers, Riverside HealthCare and Provena St. Mary's Hospital, actively recruit our graduates for employment.

Quality

Quality instruction is the cornerstone of KCC certificates and degree programs. The student to faculty ratio is 19 to 1, meaning smaller class sizes and more individual student attention. Many of KCC's professors have the highest degrees in their fields. Our full-time professors have years of professional experience that is being drawn on in the classroom. It's no wonder that KCC students who transfer to four-year colleges and universities typically do better at those institutions than the students who started there as freshmen.
