Graduation Checklist

  • Obtain a petition to graduate from Student Services no later than three months before graduation to allow adequate time for processing.
  • Fill out the petition to graduate. Complete all items on the form.
  • Complete a Financial Aid Exit Interview (if you received a student loan).
  • Make an appointment to go over your petition to graduate with your academic adviser.
  • If you do not complete degree requirements by the end of the summer term, you must file a new graduation application.
  • If you owe money to the college for fees or fines (tuition obligations, parking tickets, library, etc.) you will not be able to graduate.
  • Before petitioning to graduate, transcripts from high school and any other college(s) you have attended must be on file at KCC.
  • Pay the graduation fee of $20 to the college Accounting Office (near Student Services) at the time you submit your petition to graduate.
  • Submit your petition by March 3, 2008. Late petitions will be processed, but participation for commencement cannot be guaranteed.
  • You will receive a letter from the dean of Student Services regarding participating in graduation, cap and gown, and invitation information. The cap and gown will be yours to keep.
  • Attend the graduation ceremony on May 17, 2008 at KCC.
  • KCC will mail your diploma to the address you entered on your petition to graduate.

A review will be conducted of each petition to graduate. The review will include checking to make sure each student has completed all the academic degree requirements. If the academic graduation readiness review determines that there are remaining academic or financial requirements, you will be notified by letter of what requirements remain unsatisfied. Note: Students who have an out-of-state high school transcript and home schooled students should meet with an adviser to discuss Illinois requirements for federal and state constitution exams and the U.S. flag exam before submitting a petition to graduate.

If the review of your petition to graduate shows that all requirements for graduation have been met, you will be notified by mail that you have been processed for graduation. Your diploma will be ordered and you will be sent it, along with a package of other information, approximately six weeks after the official date of graduation.
