Each year, KCC publishes a literary anthology called Prairie Fire. A showcase for literary works by KCC students, the publication features all genres, including poetry, short stories, and creative nonfiction. All current KCC students are invited to contribute.

Prairie Fire premieres in the spring with a reception, where selected students read their work and trophies are awarded for the Best of Prairie Fire. Copies of the anthology are available in the college's bookstore and in the Learning Resource Center.
