Career Services

Career Exploration and Planning

Choosing a career goal is one of the most important decisions you will make. The office of Career Services at KCC will work with you to facilitate career decision making. Through an assortment of activities, a career counselor can help guide you to discover those personal characteristics and motivators that influence career decisions. Although there are no magic answers, many tools and strategies are available that can help you to better understand your occupational identity. The Career Services office is committed to supporting our students personal and professional development throughout their years at KCC.

Helping undecided students
Career services can help students who have not yet determined a major. We can help you answer the following questions:

  • How do I start the process of choosing a major?
  • How do I know what majors match my interests, abilities and values?
  • What can I do with the major I am considering?

Career assessment workshops
The career assessment workshop provides valuable information to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their interests, personality and values which are all extremely important in making informed career choices. A career development specialist discusses assessment results in a one-hour interpretive session per assessment instrument. Those assessment instruments are:

  • Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
Please note the MBTI is completed at a computer in KCC's Student Services department.
  • Career Assessment Inventory (CAI)
Please note the CAI can be completed at home and returned to Gisel Waide.

*Completing times are approximately 45 minutes for each test. The cost for each individual assessment is $5.

To get started:

Step 1: Call Gisel Waide in student services (815-802-8530) to arrange to take the career and personality inventories. The cost of each is $5.

Step 2: Complete the CAI and the MBTI inventories. Please refer above for testing instructions.

Step 3: Tests must be completed a week before the workshop. Please phone (815) 802-8582 and make a reservation to attend a free workshop to match your results with career goals.

Interpretations are only done during scheduled workshop times.
