Summer 2014 began KCC's transition from Angel to a new learning management system (LMS) - Canvas. During the Fall 2014 semester, professors can choose to use Canvas or Angel. Starting Jan. 1, 2015, all online, hybrid and enhanced face-to-face courses will be delivered using Canvas. Benefits include:
- Ease of Use: Canvas is designed to be intuitive for faculty and students.
- Improved Communication: Stay connected by receiving course updates when and where you want including email, text messaging and even Facebook.
- Mobile Friendly: Access your course using free mobile apps for iOS and Android phones and tablets.
- Multimedia Integration: Faculty and students can insert audio, video, text, images and more to stay more connected and engaged.
How will I know if my course will use Canvas?
Starting fall 2014, KCC professors may elect to use Canvas in one or more of their courses. Prior to the start of your online course, your professor will contact you via your KCC email, indicating whether the course is in Angel or Canvas and providing contact and communication directions. The transition will end in December 2014, and all courses will use Canvas beginning in January 2015.
If you have questions about your course's use of Angel or Canvas, you can contact your professor through your KCC email for assistance.
How do I log in to Canvas?
You will log in to Canvas using your KCC user ID and password. (If you don't know your user ID, follow the instructions on KCConnect's What's my User ID?) Initially, your password is the last six digits of your Social Security number.
For more information, view the ITS FAQ. If you have a question or problem logging in, contact the ITS Helpdesk.
How can I familiarize myself with Canvas?
There are several resources to help prepare you for Canvas. The Canvas Overview video will help you get started. Once you are logged in to Canvas, enroll yourself in the Student Orientation to Canvas course, which can be found in the Help link in the upper right corner of the Canvas screen. For guided Canvas tutoring, visit the Learning Lab during scheduled hours.
