KCC Credit Students, Faculty and Staff with current KCC ID cards.
When should an interlibrary loan request be submitted?
Items may be requested when the material is not available at the library or if an item cannot be remote-charged from any of the I-Share libraries in KCC's Online Catalog. Please check KCC's holdings before submitting requests.
How can I submit an interlibrary loan request?
Book requests- e-mail kbecker@kcc.edu to request a book through interlibrary loan that is unavailable through KCC's Online Catalog or FirstSearch. Include the following information: Exact book title and author; if available, the year of publication and ISBN number; your first and last name; your KCC barcode number; and a telephone number or e-mail address. Telephone requests are not accepted.
Periodical article requests- e-mail kbecker@kcc.edu to request a periodical article through interlibrary loan that is unavailable through FirstSearch, InfoTrac, library resources (not online) or the Union List of Periodicals. Include the following information: Exact article title; periodical title and publication date (including volume number, month and year); if available, author and page numbers; your first and last name; your KCC barcode number; and a telephone number or e-mail address. How long will it take to receive the material?
Requests take a week to 10 days to be filled. Items that are not commonly held may take longer to obtain. Patrons are limited to five requests per week.
What types of materials can I borrow?
Books are usually available for loan from other libraries. Certain types of materials may not be available for loans such as reference materials, rare and special collections, and entire volumes/issues of periodicals.
How much does it cost?
Every effort is made to obtain materials free of charge. If obtaining the item would incur a service fee, (usually $10 to $20) please indicate in your request the amount you would be willing to pay (such as: $10, $15, etc.). How will I know when the item I requested is in?
You will be notified by e-mail or phone when your request has been filled. Interlibrary loan materials are available for pick up at the Circulation Desk with a valid KCC ID Card. Unclaimed books will be returned to the lending library two weeks after date of receipt. Unclaimed photocopies will be discarded after 30 days.
How long can I keep the material?
Generally, materials are charged out for four weeks. However, some libraries will have shorter loan periods. As a borrower, you are subject to the lending library's fines and policies on overdue materials. Failure to comply may result in suspension of LRC privileges.
Can I renew library materials I have borrowed through interlibrary loan?
Items borrowed through KCC's Online Catalog my be renewed by using the Online Catalog's Renew Books/My Account button. To request a renewal for other ILL materials, bring the item(s) you wish to renew to the Circulation Desk at least four days before the due date. Library staff will contact the lending library to request a renewal.
How can I check on the progress of my requests?
The status of a request may be checked by using the "my account" button on KCC's Online Catalog. Please ask a staff member for further assistance.
Where do I return materials?
Interlibrary loan materials may be returned to the Circulation Desk or the library book drop.
