Learn about energy projects in Kankakee including: electrical power generation using methane produced from anaerobic digestion, hydropower production from the Kankakee River, and solar and wind production currently planned for on the KRMA site.
Green building topics will include the renovation of the Kankakee library, and the conversion of the existing City Hall to the Public Safety Center. Both projects may receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification.

Topics will include deconstruction and design for disassembly-and reuse.

Presentations are planned throughout the day, and lunch will be prepared by Chef Guia Hoffman of the Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast. The cost is $30 per person, including lunch.
The visit will include tours and information of sites such as the first straw bale home in Illinois, a telephone company which doesn't use electricity and a bed and breakfast designed with the natural interrelationships of area ecology.
The tour also will include examples of using solar and wind applications to reduce electric bills and a meadow where a grass-based food source roamsin the form of sheep.
