Welcome to KCC's
Teaching and Learning Center
ANGEL Upgrade, Summer 2008

KCC is currently running version 7.1 of the ANGEL Learning Management Suite (LMS). The most current version out there now is 7.2. ANGEL plans to release version 7.3 in May of 2008. ANGEL only supports their current version and the one previous version.

So, what this means for KCC is an ANGEL upgrade. If 7.3 is released on schedule and it appears to be stable, i.e. not too buggy, we plan to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.3 the week of Aug. 11. If 7.3 is late or real buggy, we will upgrade to 7.2 and move to 7.3 between the fall and spring semesters, or in the summer of 2009.

ANGEL 7.3 recommends the use of an IE 7.x browser and will not be tested on IE6.x browsers. This does not mean that it won't run on IE 6.x, it just means there might be issues and those issues won't be supported.

What does this mean for you if you use ANGEL? It means:

  1. You need to MIGRATE your course content into your ANGEL course master on schedule—see the Content Migration Key Dates below.
  2. You need to ensure that if you are using an IE7.x browser.ITS will contact you in the near future and will advise you of their recommended method of accomplishing the upgrade from IE 6.x to IE 7.x.
  3. The ANGEL workshops in the TLC will be upgraded to reflect the new 7.3 (or 7.2) content and you will continue to be supported by ANGEL and the TLC.
  4. We will leave 7.1 shells open for "in completes" etc. However, any content created in the shell beyond one week after the last day of the semester will not be moved to the new version.
  5. Remember: Discussion Forums and everything in them does not copy and won't be moved.
  6. Always export your grade sheet to Excel. Not sure how to? Ask us.
  7. Always back up your ANGEL course. Not sure how to? Ask us.

ALL of your course content must be in your Master Course within one week after the end of the last semester you teach

Content Migration Key dates: If you are not teaching this summer, your content must be in your Master Course by May 23.

  • If you are teaching the summer six-week session,
your content must be in your Master Course by July 3
  • If you are teaching the summer eight-week session,
your content must be in your Master Course by Aug. 7
  • We will delete 2006 course shells as part of the summer upgrade process!

2006 ANGEL course shells will be deleted the week of Aug 11. Make sure to move all relevant materials from your course shell to your course master before deleting the shell. Be sure your content is in your Master Course in accordance with the schedule above.

You can delete old shells yourself by simply logging into ANGEL, selecting your shell and clicking on the small "Delete" button underneath the course title. Once old course shells are deleted they cannot be recovered!
