Please join the students, faculty and staff of Kankakee Community College for events and discussions about the environment and living a sustainable existence. All events will be held on campus.

Full Schedule

Learn what sustainability means and how subtle lifestyle changes can make a big difference in the future of our planet.
Conversations with national experts will focus on topics such as global warming, climate change, and sustainable food supply, building "green" and alternative fuels.
Screening of segments from National Geographic's Planet Earth series will be shown.
Additional discussions and activities for students and the community are in the planning stages.

Take a sustainability tour of Stelle - Saturday, April 26

As part of its second annual "Sustainability Week," KCC is offering a trip to Stelle to tour a number of the community's sites. The trip will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

Presentations are planned throughout the day, and lunch will be prepared by Chef Guia Hoffman of the Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast. The cost is $30 per person, $20 for students with valid IDs, and includes lunch.

The visit will include tours and information of sites such as the first straw bale home in Illinois, a telephone company which generates its own electricity and a bed and breakfast designed with the natural interrelationships of area ecology. The tour also will include examples of using solar and wind applications to reduce electric bills and a meadow where a grass-based food source roams—in the form of sheep.
