REGISTRATION POLICIES

General:

  • Students enrolling in nine or more semester hours must have their course selections approved and signed by a Student Services or faculty adviser before they can register. For an appointment, phone (815) 802-8500 or e-mail studentservices@kcc.edu.
  • The FACTS tuition payment plan is available at the request of the student. It is not available during late registration.
  • If a student wishes to have ACT scores on file at KCC, a copy should be sent directly from ACT to KCC's Office of Admissions and Registration. The ACT code number for KCC is 010530. For information on ordering reports, consult a KCC adviser.
  • KCC has an open admission policy. That means we accept students for general admission who have obtained their high school diplomas or GEDs. Most students will be required to take our assessment tests so classes can be selected which maximize their chance for success. Selective admission programs have additional enrollment requirements.
  • Anyone over age 16 without a high school diploma or GED can enroll in GED preparation classes at KCC.
  • The Admissions Form should be submitted several weeks prior to the semester that you plan to attend KCC. You may apply for admission right up until classes begin each semester, but this may delay your enrollment and limit your course selection. Please note that Health Careers programs have limited enrollments and individual application deadlines.
  • Registration for fall classes begins the preceding April; registration for spring classes begins the preceding October; and registration for summer classes begins the preceding March. Consult the current class schedule and payment deadlines for when your tuition and fees are due. Tuition and fees are paid in the Business Office, which is around the corner from the registration counter. Cash, checks, Visa®, MasterCard® and Discover® are accepted.
  • Note for transfer students from other colleges/universities: Submit a written request to the Office of Admissions and Registration to have your transfer credits evaluated for the appropriate academic program/curriculum. Because this evaluation takes additional time during the registration process, it is recommended that you request a transfer credit evaluation as early as possible.

Locations:

  • In person registration is accepted in Student Services on the second floor of the Workforce Development Center on River Road (click for map) and at the KCC Iroquois County Satellite.
  • Phone-in registration accepted on posted days before each semester/term.

Special requirements for phone-in registration:

  • Returning students in good academic standing who are enrolling in fewer than nine semester hours may phone in course selections. Students registering by phone must pay tuition and fees with Visa®, Discover®, or MasterCard ®.
  • New students, students enrolling in nine or more semester hours and students on academic warning must consult an adviser in person before registering. Phone-in registrations are not permitted for these students.
  • Due to testing requirements, persons registering for math, English or most transferable humanities and social and behavioral sciences courses cannot register by phone.

New students:

  • Students enrolling at KCC for the first time should consult an adviser before registering. For an appointment, phone (815) 802-8500 or e-mail studentservices@kcc.edu.
  • New students should request that an official transcript from all high schools and colleges previously attended be mailed directly to: KCC Office of Admissions and Registration; 100 College Drive; Kankakee IL 60901.
  • All new students should take the COMPASS placement test before meeting with an adviser to plan first semester classes. Placement scores are used to help determine a student's schedule.

Course numbers:

  • Courses are identified by a code of four letters and four numbers.
  • The four letters represent the subject or program area. For example, ECON is the prefix for economics classes.
  • The four numbers indicate the following:
    • 0000 - 0999: identifies the course as a college preparatory course. Such courses are not applicable to a college degree program.
    • 1000 - 1499 and 2000 - 2499: identifies the course as part of a career program. The courses in a career program are not designed to transfer to four-year colleges or universities - although in some cases they may.
    • 1500 - 1999 and 2500 - 2999: identifies the course as part of a transfer program. While these courses are intended to transfer to a college or university, students should work closely with a KCC adviser to ensure proper transfer of courses.
  • The final digit of the course number indicates the number of credit hours awarded.

Tuition:

See tuition.

Payment:

Registration is not final, and enrollment is not guaranteed, in any course until all costs have been paid in full. Payments for tuition and fees are accepted at the college Business Office in the Student Services reception area. Payment options include:

  • Cash. Accepted only if you are registering in person.
  • Personal check. Make checks payable to Kankakee Community College.
  • Visa®, Discover® or MasterCard®. Use Visa®, Discover® or MasterCard® to charge tuition, fees, books, school supplies or campus bookstore items.
  • The FACTS tuition payment plan is available at the request of the student. At student's request, tuition and fees are automatically deducted from a designated bank account or credit card. Payments can be spread over several months. Payment plan fee applies. It is not available during late registration.

Course cancellations:

In most cases, if fewer than 12 students enroll in a course, the course will be canceled. The college will make every attempt to notify students in advance of cancellations. A student who enrolled in a canceled course will receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees for the canceled course unless the student transfers to another class during the same semester.

Course withdrawal:

  • You may withdraw from a course or from the college without receiving a punitive grade any time before the end of the 10th week of a 16-week semester or before 63 percent of a term has elapsed for classes scheduled for fewer than 16 weeks.
  • If circumstances prevent you from coming to the college to submit a withdrawal form, you may withdraw by mailing a request to the Office of Admissions and Registration.
  • If the college is notified of a withdrawal through the mail, the letter must be postmarked no later than the date of the last day on which withdrawals will be allowed for a particular semester or class.
  • Mail withdrawals received over the weekend that are postmarked on or before the last day to withdraw will be honored and will be processed the following workday.
  • No withdrawals will be accepted over the telephone. All withdrawal requests must be in writing and signed and dated by the student.
  • A student may ask for withdrawal by sending a singed fax to (815) 802-8101.  The student's id number should be included in the request.

Refunds:

  • Withdrawing students will receive a 100% tuition refund through 10% of the duration of the course. No refund is given after 10% of a course has elapsed — with the exception of drop/add transactions. Drop/add transactions: Students who drop a course before its midterm and add another course at the same time can apply the tuition and fees from the dropped course to the course being added when enrollment for the new course is during the same semester or term.
  • If the final day for a refund falls on a weekend or on a date when the campus is closed, the refund deadline is the last business day before that date.
  • For the exact refund deadline for any course, see your registration statement, contact the Office of Admissions and Registration or the Accounting Office at (815) 802-8140.
  • Refunds will not be granted due to a change of course instructor.
  • A refund from a credit card payment will be made in the form of a credit to the cardholder's account.
