Center for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Center for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is on the first floor near food services, behind the "Cavs Corner" windows. Here, you'll find:

  • A place where you belong
  • An open environment to talk or stay to yourself
  • Computers and a printer
  • TV
  • Books and other resources (topics including race, culture, queer life)
  • Snacks
  • A nice view of the college grounds and the river

EDI Center Mission: The KCC Center for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is committed to fostering an environment of cultural awareness, social justice, and a sense of belonging for all students, faculty and staff. This commitment is demonstrated by the amplification of historically marginalized voices, openness to brave and courageous conversations, and promotion of retention, matriculation and academic success. The EDI center is KCC’s hub for cross cultural education, affirmation, celebration, and an ever growing network of resources and support.

EDI Center Vision: KCC is dedicated to enhancing quality of life through learning. Our vision is to build a strong community of civically engaged, life- long learners and global citizens. We seek to dismantle inequities that create barriers to academic and social success and strive to cultivate a safe, diverse and inclusive campus that will be recognized as a progressive leader and champions of social justice within our community.

Peer Mentoring: New and current students will be paired up with an experienced student who will provide guidance and support along the mentee’s college journey at KCC.

Community Mentoring: Current students will be paired with a professional from the community who is currently working in the mentee’s field of study. The mentor will offer professional guidance, networking opportunities and share their real world career experience.

Cultural Celebrations: Each month a different cultural group will be highlighted by the Center for EDI and celebrated with an educational experience, community gathering, or volunteer opportunity.

Cultural Student Groups: The Center for EDI will support student groups formed around shared cultural identity for the purpose of building community, solidarity and raising awareness.

Campus Partnerships: The Center for EDI will partner with student life, financial aid, advising, athletics, and other departments across campus to build bridges and relationships to enhance overall student experience and accessibility to existing campus resources and services.

Minority Male Retention Program: The previously successful Brother-to-Brother program will be revamped and operated out of the Center for EDI.

Professional Development, Seminars, Workshops: The Center for EDI will host speakers, documentary viewings, lunch and learns and other educational forums to come together to explore and dialogue about a variety of topics.
