Police Officer Fitness Test

The Police Officer Fitness Test is held at the KCC Fitness Center inside the Ice Valley Centre. Applicants must schedule in advance, pay the required fee and pass all four test components.

Before you schedule

Applicant requirements

  • Must be 20 years of age or older at the time of testing.
  • Schedule at least three business days in advance.
  • Pay the $45 fee before scheduling.
  • Bring a state-issued photo ID.
  • Wear appropriate indoor and outdoor exercise clothing.
  • Wear athletic shoes; street shoes and boots are not allowed.

Payment & cancellation

  • Pay by credit card through KCC's Accounting Office: 815-802-8140.
  • Fees are not accepted on the day of the test.
  • No refunds, including for missed appointments.
  • Complete the test within six months of payment.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Late cancellation may result in another charge.

The four test components

Sit and reach

Measures flexibility of the lower back and upper leg area.

One-minute sit-up

Measures muscular endurance of the abdominal muscles.

Maximum bench press

Measures the force the upper body can generate.

1.5-mile run

Measures cardiovascular endurance and oxygen transport.

Passing the test

Applicants must pass every component. Required performance standards are based on age group and sex.

Scheduling process

  1. Pay the $45 fee through KCC's Accounting Office by calling 815-802-8140.
  2. After payment, contact Yvonne Mills at ymills@kcc.edu or 815-802-8610.
  3. Choose an available appointment at least three business days in advance.
  4. Bring your state-issued photo ID and appropriate exercise clothing.

Additional information

  • Except for extreme conditions, testing is not delayed or rescheduled because of weather.
  • Successful candidates receive a Police Officer Fitness Test card or temporary card immediately after the test.
  • The fee for a replacement card is $20.
